Job description

Job key perfomance areas:
 
Operational Leadership

•    Lead teams responsible for daily plant operations.
•    Manage the following key teams and functions: 
      o    Operational management to meet throughput, quality, and efficiency targets.
      o    Maintenance management to ensure reliability standards, manage repairs, control maintenance costs, and          mitigate risk.
      o    Ensure all teams meet Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) objectives, aligned with the “I believe in zero        harm” philosophy.

Cost Management

•    Lead the annual budgeting process and monthly tactical planning for plant output and resource requirements          including personnel, materials, and energy.
•    Oversee daily and monthly cost-control initiatives through expenditure management, prioritization, and                    continuous improvement.
•    Focus on cost drivers, including consumption rates, to maximize cost effectiveness.
•    Lead investigations into operational variances, develop corrective actions, and oversee implementation.

Quality Improvement

•    Ensure operational adherence to world-class quality assurance principles throughout all stages of production.
•    Drive quality improvements through application of the PDCA approach
•    Collaborate with internal stakeholders (suppliers, customers, quality teams) to enhance business quality results.
•    Engage externally with customers to resolve critical issues and identify growth opportunities.

SHERQ Compliance

•    Ensure full compliance with all statutory and regulatory requirements.
•    Assume accountability for: 
      o    Health Management
      o    Safety Management
      o    Wellness Management
      o    Environmental Management
      o    Enterprise Risk Management
      o    SHERQ Systems Management (ISO 9000, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001)

     o    Sales and Marketing teams
     o    Company Strategy and Financial Analysis teams

Minimum requirements

Experience and Requirements

•    A relevant B degree (NQF 8) complemented by a management development programme.
•    A minimum of 10 years’ experience in a related field.
•    An MBA will be considered an advantage.
•    Solid understanding of manufacturing operations; knowledge of the steel industry will be beneficial.
•    Strong technical and commercial insight.
•    Proven ability to lead and manage large, diverse teams.
•    Sound understanding of SHE and other statutory, regulatory, and policy requirements.

•    Highly effective at managing multiple managerial-level teams under complex conditions.
•    High energy and the ability to inspire teams during challenging circumstances.
•    Strong grasp of manufacturing processes; steel industry exposure is a distinct advantage.
