Introduction
ArcelorMittal is hiring for a Specialist in Contracts Management & International Sales. The purpose of this position is to oversee the broad spectrum of global trade, shipping, and contract administration for steel products, including raw materials, semi-finished goods, and finished products. It also ensures that import/export operations comply with international trade regulations and that global shipping activities are well executed
Job description

Responsibilities & requirements
 

·        Draft, review, and negotiate international steel trade contracts in alignment with Incoterms, ensuring clarity on payment terms, delivery schedules, and risk allocation through cross-functional coordination

·        Collaborate with legal, finance, and commercial teams to ensure that contracts reflect accurate specifications, payment instruments (L/C, TT, CAD), and compliance with internal and external standards

·        Maintain diligent records of contracts, amendments, and shipping documentation to support audit readiness and regulatory compliance across international jurisdictions

·        Oversee the end-to-end shipping process for bulk, break-bulk, and containerised steel cargoes, including vessel nomination, port operations, and documentation flow

·        Engage with shipping lines, charterers, freight forwarders, and port agents to secure competitive freight rates, optimise vessel scheduling, and ensure efficient cargo handling

·        Manage demurrage/dispatch calculations, freight settlements, and cargo insurance claims, ensuring financial accuracy and timely resolution of shipping-related issues

·        Ensure compliance with global trade laws, sanctions, and import/export controls, while monitoring customs clearance and staying abreast of tariffs, anti-dumping duties, and quota restrictions

·        Coordinate financial oversight of trade transactions, including managing letters of credit, trade finance instruments, and reconciliation of payments with banking institutions

·        Support procurement and sales teams by providing freight cost forecasts, trade margin analyses, and route optimisation insights, to enhance commercial decision-making

·        Foster strong collaboration across internal teams and external stakeholders, including carriers, brokers, inspection agencies, and government authorities, to ensure seamless contract execution and logistics performance

Minimum requirements

Qualifications & requirements
 

·        Applicable Marketing National Diploma (NQF 6/10) or B-degree/HND/B-Tech

·        Readiness for frequent travels

·        Minimum of 18 Months experience, preferably in international trade and shipping management within the commodities sector (steel, metals etc.)

·        Exposure to international steel trade flows, pricing mechanisms, and logistics operations

·        Exposure to handling break-bulk and container shipments and work closely with AM shipping or other Container lines to optimise freight rates

·        Familiarity with Incoterms, UCP 600, chartering principles, and trade finance instruments

·        Knowledge of ArcelorMittal South Africa’s product range and operation capabilities

·        High-level business relationship management experience is essential

·        Demonstrated experience in managing complex, high-value transactions

·        Proficient with Ms Office and ERP systems (e.g. SAP) and trade documentation platforms such as SITC or similar
