Job description
- Operate the Blast Furnace from the Control Room
- Monitor and control auxiliary plants of the Blast Furnace
- Solve problems with the Blast Furnace operation.
- Ensure correct stop and start of Furnace.
- Conduct communication with other sections in the works.
- Assist maintenance sections in fault finding on the plants.
- Assist Production Superintendent with the management of shift personnel.
- Supervise production activities on the Blast Furnace cast floors.
- Assist maintenance personnel in fault finding of the cast floor equipment.
- Co-ordinate and assist with Refractories repairs on the cast floor.
- Ensure that production activities on the cast floor and tuyere belt are completed correctly and speedily to minimize furnace down time.
- Supervision of cast floor personnel
- Ensure adherence to safety regulations on the cast floor.
- Assist the Superintendent in safely stopping and starting the furnace for planned and unplanned shutdowns
- Co-ordinate torpedo placement with Steel Plant and Rail Transport to ensure efficient casting practice.
- Control of the usage of the slag granulation system
- Monitor the Tuyerebelt condition during operation
- Ensure a thorough shift change over from the previous shift
Minimum requirements
Qualification:
- Grade 12 / NCV 4 (NQF 4/10)
Experience and Requirements:
- Minimum 5 years experience
- Understanding of the Iron Making processes
- Computer literate (Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel)
