Job description

  • Operate the Blast Furnace from the Control Room
  • Monitor and control auxiliary plants of the Blast Furnace
  • Solve problems with the Blast Furnace operation.
  • Ensure correct stop and start of Furnace.
  • Conduct communication with other sections in the works.
  • Assist maintenance sections in fault finding on the plants.
  • Assist Production Superintendent with the management of shift personnel.
  • Supervise production activities on the Blast Furnace cast floors.
  • Assist maintenance personnel in fault finding of the cast floor equipment.
  • Co-ordinate and assist with Refractories repairs on the cast floor.
  • Ensure that production activities on the cast floor and tuyere belt are completed correctly and speedily to minimize furnace down time.
  • Supervision of cast floor personnel
  • Ensure adherence to safety regulations on the cast floor.
  • Assist the Superintendent in safely stopping and starting  the furnace for planned and unplanned shutdowns
  • Co-ordinate torpedo placement with Steel Plant and Rail Transport to ensure efficient casting practice.
  • Control of the usage of the slag granulation system
  • Monitor the Tuyerebelt condition during operation
  • Ensure a thorough shift change over from the previous shift

 

Minimum requirements

Qualification:
  • Grade 12 / NCV 4 (NQF 4/10)
Experience and Requirements:
  • Minimum 5 years experience
  • Understanding of the Iron Making processes
  • Computer literate (Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel)
