A Mechanical Engineer in the steel industry is responsible for the design, development, installation, and maintenance of mechanical systems and equipment. This role is crucial for ensuring the safety, reliability, availability, and efficiency of mechanical systems, which are essential for production processes. The Mechanical Engineer will work closely with production and maintenance teams to identify potential risks, hazards, and early detection of faults. Additionally, the role involves tracking trends, identifying improvement opportunities, and implementing predictive measures to enhance plant performance.
Job description

  • Installation and Setup: Oversee the installation and setup of mechanical systems and equipment. Ensure all installations are completed according to specifications and safety standards.
  • Maintenance: Ensure regular maintenance is performed on mechanical systems to prevent breakdowns and ensure optimal performance. This includes inspecting, testing, and troubleshooting mechanical components.
  • Repairs: Diagnose mechanical issues in machinery and equipment. Use problem-solving techniques and a variety of tools to fix issues promptly and efficiently.
  • Reliability and Availability: Implement and follow preventive maintenance schedules to enhance the reliability and availability of mechanical systems. Conduct inspections and tests to identify potential problems before they cause disruptions.
  • Throughput: Work to maximize the throughput of mechanical systems by ensuring all equipment operates at peak efficiency. Collaborate with production teams to minimize downtime and improve overall productivity.
  • Safety Standards: Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures. Ensure a clean and safe work environment by following stringent safety measures.
  • Risk and Hazard Identification: Work closely with production and maintenance teams to identify potential risks and hazards. Implement strategies for early detection of faults and preventive measures to mitigate risks.
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in mechanical systems and processes. Implement best practices and innovative solutions to enhance plant reliability and performance. Utilize data analytics and advanced technologies to monitor and optimize mechanical systems.
  • Mechanical Systems and Components: Manage and maintain a variety of mechanical systems and components, which may include:
  • Static Equipment: Pressure vessels, heat exchangers, and storage tanks.
    • Rotating Equipment: Pumps, compressors, turbines, and motors.
    • Material Handling Systems: Conveyors, cranes, and hoists.
    • Hydraulic and Pneumatic Systems: Hydraulic pumps, cylinders, and pneumatic actuators.
    • Cooling and Lubrication Systems: Cooling towers, heat exchangers, and lubrication systems.
    • Structural Components: Structural steel frameworks, supports, and foundations.
    • Process Equipment: Blast furnaces, rolling mills, and casting machines.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair activities. Document any changes or modifications made to mechanical systems and equipment.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, including production, engineering, and quality control, to ensure seamless operations. Provide technical support and training to other team members.

Qualifications

Experience and Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years' relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of capital project initiation and management procedures.
  • Project management.
  • Experience in SAP PS and PM modules, compiling and maintaining maintenance plans.
  • Experience in the field of Reliability Engineering.
  • Proven ability to delivering results through collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Computer literate: MS Office suite, latest analytical tools, design tools, product and project management tools, engineering tools, production tools
