To contribute to the business success of Plate Mill operations by:
- Realising the annual, macro capacity plan for Plate Mill products in accordance with customer (both internal and external) requirements.
- Sustaining the condition and productive capacity of the Plate Mill assets.
Overall Accountability
Ensure safe and sustainable manufacturing environment delivering quality products and services in line with internal and external customer requirements in the Plate Mill Division by:
1) Conducting business in a safe, healthy and environmentally friendly way by effectively managing systems and risks.
2) Developing and engaging our people to ensure a high performance and value driven culture.
3) Creating wealth and growth for our employees, customers, business partners, service providers and shareholders.
4) Maximising operating profit and cash flow while effectively managing cost
5) Continuously optimising sustainable throughput by improving process, quality, cost and efficiencies.
Main Responsibilities
1) Conducting business in a safe, healthy and environmentally friendly way by effectively managing systems and risks.
- Achieve SHERQ targets for Plate Mill
- Ensure compliance with statutory requirements
- Fulfil the responsibilities as identified in the responsibility and accountability matrix for the following areas:
o Health Management
o Safety Management
o Wellness Management
o Environmental Management
o Enterprise Risk Management
o SHERQ Systems Management
(ISO 9000, ISO 14001, OSHAS 18001)
2) Developing and engaging our people to ensure a high performance and value driven culture.
- Ensure that resourcing leadership development, talent management and succession programs are effectively executed in the division
- Optimise organisation and workforce design, in line with Plate Mill guidelines, to meet business objectives
- Execute the performance management process to develop a performance culture
- Create and maintain an enabling work culture and leadership style supporting business excellence
- Supply leadership to direct reports and operations team
3) Creating wealth and growth for our employees, customers, business partners, service providers and Shareholders.
- Participate in the establishment of the strategy, master plan, objectives and implementation plans for Plate Mill
- Ensure roll-out of the master plan in Plate Mill
- Ensure internal customer satisfaction in terms of quality products and processes
- Ensure overall budget control and compliance to financial governance rules in the division
4) Maximising operating profit and cash flow while effectively managing cost.
- Ensure yearly budget preparation and compliance
- Ensure sustainability by achievement of CAPEX budget on annual basis
- Ensure effective stock management of raw materials
- Take ownership of Business Improvement initiatives and commitment to targets in Plate Mill
5) Continuously optimizing sustainable throughput by improving processes, quality, cost and efficiencies
- Ensure sustainable output of products at minimum cost, with quality and service required by the customer
- Manage the actions for continuous and sustainable improvement on throughput, efficiency, quality and cost
- Take responsibility for agreed performance targets
- Ensure roll-out of standardization initiatives with Plate Mill
Minimum requirements
Qualifications and Experience
- Applicable B-Degree (NQF8) as well as, a Management Development Program
- MBA would be advantageous
- 10 years relevant post qualification experience.
- General business knowledge
- Exposure to steel business and knowledge of ArcelorMittal strategy and values
- Expert knowledge of Plate Mill processes
- SHERQ and HR policies relevant to the role
- Statutory and regulatory governance requirements
