Introduction
A Metallurgical Engineer is responsible for studying the properties and characteristics of metals and other non-metallic materials. This role involves developing new metal alloys, improving existing ones, and investigating the causes of metal failures. The Metallurgical Engineer will work closely with other engineers and departments to ensure the quality and performance of metal products, while adhering to safety and environmental regulations.
Job description

  • Testing and Analysis: Conduct metallurgical investigations and analyses to determine the physical and chemical properties of raw materials or products throughout the steelmaking process. Test metals to ensure they meet specific standards and specifications.
  • Failure Investigation: Investigate and determine the reasons for failures and defects. Provide solutions to prevent future occurrences.
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in metallurgical processes. Implement best practices and innovative solutions to enhance product quality and performance.
  • Project Management: Plan and evaluate new projects, including estimates on cost, time, and materials.
  • Safety and Compliance: Ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations. Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures to maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other engineers and departments to select the best materials for specific products.
  • Documentation: Prepare and present technical reports and findings to senior management. Maintain accurate records of metallurgical investigations and analyses.

Minimum requirements

Qualifications

  • B-Eng. Degree (NQF 8/10) in Metallurgical Engineering.

 

Experience and Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years' relevant experience.
  • Knowlege of capital project initiation and management procedures.
  • Project management.
  • Experience in SAP PS and PM modules
  • Proven ability to delivering results through collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Computer literate: MS Office suite, latest analytical tools, design tools, product and project management tools, engineering tools, production tools
