Introduction
ArcelorMittal is hiring for a Head of Indirects Procurement, responsible for leading and managing the procurement of all non-production goods and services across the organisation. This includes refractories, facilities, maintenance, industrial services, utilities, and MRO-related spend. The role manages Contract Managers and Technical Buyers, ensuring that procurement activities deliver measurable value, maintain compliance with governance standards, and support the organisation’s operational and strategic goals

Responsibilities & requirements 

 

Leadership and People Management

·          Lead, mentor, and develop Contract Managers and Technical Buyers.

·          Set clear performance objectives and ensure effective workload distribution.

·          Build team capability through coaching, training, and development plans.

·          Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

·          Conduct regular performance reviews and manage succession planning for key roles.

 

2. Category and Sourcing Strategy

·          Lead the development and implementation of category strategies for all indirect spend areas

·          Identify opportunities for cost optimisation, supplier consolidation, and demand management.

·          Engage with business units to ensure alignment between procurement strategies and operational needs.

·          Deliver long-term value through strategic sourcing, total cost of ownership analysis, and innovation partnerships.

 

3. Sourcing and Negotiation

·          Oversee and approve sourcing processes managed by the team.

·          Guide and support complex negotiations for key contracts and high-value services.

·          Ensure consistent application of sourcing best practices and adherence to governance frameworks.

·          Review and approve supplier selections, commercial terms, and award recommendations.

 

4. Contract and Supplier Management

·          Oversee the drafting, negotiation, and execution of supplier contracts.

·          Ensure contracts are effectively administered by the team, with key milestones, renewals, and SLAs monitored.

·          Maintain strong relationships with critical suppliers to ensure service quality, compliance, and continuous improvement.

·          Drive supplier performance management, development and risk mitigation initiatives.

 

5. Governance, Compliance, and Risk

·          Ensure compliance with internal procurement policies, Delegation of Authority (DoA), and regulatory frameworks.

·          Lead the implementation of consistent contract and procurement governance practices across indirect spend.

·          Support internal and external audits, providing full transparency of procurement records and decisions.

·          Contribute to the ongoing development, review and improvement of Procurement Policies and Procedures.

 

6. Financial and Value Delivery

·          Drive cost savings, cost avoidance, and process efficiency targets across indirect categories.

·          Monitor and report on financial performance against procurement KPIs.

·          Support budgeting and forecasting activities with accurate spending and contract data.

·          Identify opportunities for strategic value creation beyond cost — including sustainability, innovation, and supplier diversity.

Minimum requirements

Qualificantions & requiements
 

·        Honours B. degree in Supply Chain Management, Commerce, Engineering, or Business Administration.

·        Minimum 10 years’ procurement experience, with at least 5 years in indirect procurement and 3 years in team leadership.

·        Proven track record in managing contract managers and/or buyers.

·        Strong understanding of procurement processes, contract law, and commercial risk management.

·        Experience in a large, complex, or regulated organisation preferred

·        Leadership: Able to inspire, lead, and develop high-performing teams.

·        Commercial Acumen: Strong negotiation and financial management capability.

·        Strategic Thinking: Able to translate business objectives into actionable procurement strategies.

·        Analytical Skills: Data-driven decision making and spend analysis expertise.

·        Stakeholder Management: Strong influencing and communication skills across all organisational levels.

·        Governance Orientation: Deep understanding of compliance and control environments.
