Job description

Job key performance areas
  • Co-Custodian of the Maintenance Strategy in ArcelorMittal South Africa (AMSA) and all responsibilities attached to this function.
  • Manage, monitor and ensure sustainability of the Maintenance Transformation Program
  • Define Maintenance standards and standardised operating procedures 
  • Conduct and verify maintenance assessments
  • Provide guidance and coach plant management 
  • Develop training modules for specific Maintenance and Reliability standards
  • Provide training on Maintenance and Reliability standards and systems
  • Lead high level Maintenance related projects in the organisation
  • Monitor adherence to standardised maintenance procedures 
  • Perform gate keeping function for SAP EAM 
  • Conduct analysis, make and implement recommendations on maintenance related activities within AMSA
  • Co-chair of the Maintenance Forum
  • Knowledge sharing of best practices within AMSA and ArcelorMittal Group
  • Expert on all Maintenance Transformation Workstreams
  • Management and control of central Maintenance budgets

  • Benchmark best practices with regards to maintenance management processes by embedding the AMSA way.
  • Best-in-class benchmarks for asset performance and equipment reliability/ maintenance performance 
  • Lead the development of asset specific targets for equipment reliability performance (Targets are directly related to Business Unit plan goals)
  • Give guidance on the interaction between the role players.
  • Expectations are developed and optimised for consistent: 
    • Asset Management defined roles and structure
    • Maintenance Transformation roll out and sustainability
    • Reliability and Maintenance Execution 
    • Use of the Equipment Reliability Process, Tools and Metrics
Leadership actions supporting ‘Setting direction between the AMSA operating units':
  • Seek ‘best in class’ benchmarks for different aspects of Maintenance initiatives 
  • Validate the asset owner business plans and measure progress
  • Require maintenance management to incorporate explicit goals and objectives 
  • Oversee KPI’s related to maintenance performance supporting the business goals 
  • Varify  training requirements and programs
  • Develop and sustain a culture of continuous improvement
  • Evaluate Maintenance management in the different areas of responsibilities
 
Leadership actions supporting ‘Enabling the Organisation':
  • Assess resource requirements and capability gap to meet future demands/targets.
  • Request review for specific individuals – skills, competency, behavior and action appropriately (train/replace)
  • Support “Communities of Leadership” for the manager level
  • Evaluate Manager Knowledge – seek learning opportunities to close gaps in knowledge or understanding (Identify individual and collective learning opportunities)
  • Exercise accountability
  • Progress against expectations is measured at AMSA level and compared to benchmarks
  • Metrics (both leading process metrics and lagging results metrics) are routinely reviewed through a formal process utilising a consistent measurement reporting system.
  • Assessments are required (done with support from Maintenance/ Operations/ Progress):
  • Maintenance Transformation and Maintenance Execution adherence must be reviewed
  • Business process adherence must be reviewed
  • Leadership actions supporting ‘Exercise Accountability':
    • Assess performance against defined goals and objectives to identify gaps.
    • Hold plant management accountable for managing their direct reports against expectations defined in their respective performance reviews.
    • Verify that a monthly AMSA scorecard is compiled 

Minimum requirements

Qualifications
  • Relevant BEng or BSc Degree (NQF8)
  • Management Development Programme (Preferable)
 
Experience and Area specific requirements
  • 15 Years relevant experience in Operations encompassing Maintenance 
  • Superior knowledge of principles and practices in Asset Management
  • Technical knowledge of maintenance processes
  • Attention to detail and very good analytical skills
  • Good communication and strong leadership  and execution skills
  • Hands-on approach
  • Experience in maintenance systems
  • Sound knowledge of Asset Management supportive systems e.g. enabling technologies
  • Change Management skills 
  • Application of continuous improvement methodologies 
  • Advanced level of understanding and knowledge of SAP PM/EAM
  • Proven ability to successfully roll out and sustain Maintenance Management systems
  • Safety conscious and knowledgeable on the OHS Act
  • Ability to work on data analysis tools – Power BI
