Job description
- Supervising the Mill team on a shift to produce steel sections from input blocks.
- Supervises rolls changes for the scheduled sections.
- Sets up the mills to achieve the product according to the specifications.
- Inspects rolls and tackle to ensure aim specifications can be achieved.
- Ensure operational area and equipment are in a satisfactory condition for the teams to conduct these tasks safely. Ensures team utilizes the required personal protective equipment for the task.
- Ensure that the Mill operating personnel are trained and competent for their tasks.
- Conducts HIRA and compiles safe operating procedures for tasks in area.
- Allocates resources and equipment to achieve production targets on the shift.
- Holds shift safety meeting with team members to foster the AMRAS safety culture.
- Maintains discipline by enforcing the disciplinary code and procedures.
- Measure and monitor production output and quality standards within a set area or plant with available resources and equipment.
- Using a computer for communication.
- Works safely and within the agreed operating guidelines, as communicated from time to time.
- Performs work in any area of the mill, in line with the activities expected for this grade of work.
- Assists with first line maintenance of allocated equipment / equipment being operated.
- Pro-actively inspects, protects, and reports malfunction of equipment.
- Follows work instructions as published and makes suggestions to improve process flow.
- Inspects unprocessed product / audits product for any defects and takes remedial action or report as required.
- Complies with safety rules.
- Performs general housekeeping.
- Stops unsafe work.
Minimum requirements
Qualification:
- Grade 12 / NCV 4 (NQF 4/10)
Experience and Requirements:
- Minimum 5 years of supervisory experience
- Experience in a structural mill or a similar environment would be advantageous
