Job description
- Oversee operations: Manage all aspects of outbound warehouse operations, including inventory management, picking, packing, and staging.
- Ensure on timely delivery: (OTIF) Coordinate with transportation and logistics to ensure products are shipped on time and meet customer demands.
- Manage staff: Lead, train, and coach operational teams to meet performance expectations.
- Improve efficiency: Analyze and improve workflow processes, implement performance metrics, and reduce operational costs.
- Handle logistics: Plan and manage outbound logistics, including transport scheduling and routing.
- Manage returns: Process and manage returned or damaged stock.
- Report on performance: Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) and service level agreements (SLAs).
Logistics Strategy & Execution Oversight:
· Custodian of the order management process (first transaction) and takes full responsibility for all order types, interface transmissions and assumes the role of “watchdog” for the fulfillment of business volumes.
· Establish and communicate commitment to service excellence ie: value added customer service is achieved.
· People management ie: formulate and implement “goal based” review system that encourages succession planning, training and development.
· Analyse, gather and distribute information on customer
· Oversee outbound logistics planning to align with customer delivery requirements and export schedules.
· Optimise modal mix (rail, road) for cost, capacity, and reliability.
· Ensure outbound transport aligns with Sales & Marketing forecasts and customer service targets.
· Monitor distribution efficiency and manage capacity with service providers.
Governance & Compliance:
· Ensure 100% compliance with procurement governance (TAC / EXCO approvals, DOA policies).
· Mitigate contractual risks through strict enforcement of SLAs and penalties.
Stakeholder Engagement:
· Partner with Sales & Marketing to align outbound procurement with customer commitments.
· Provide commercial cost analysis and outbound strategy recommendations to Finance and Operations.
· Collaborate with Legal, Operations, and other functions for alignment.
REQUIRED SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:
Technical / Professional:
· Knowledge of sales & marketing and procurement management (road, rail, port, shipping).
· Logistics and outbound distribution strategy.
· Strong financial literacy, managing cost vs service landed cost, export pricing, and budgeting.
· Knowledge of contract law, trade compliance, and supplier governance.
Behavioural:
· Negotiation and influencing at senior levels.
· Strong decision-making and problem-solving under pressure.
· Customer-focused with a commercial mindset.
· Ability to engage senior executives and external stakeholders (customers, ports, transporters).

Administration:
· Ensure that personnel administration is completed timeously and accurately
· Maintains controls, governance and risk compliance in line with audit requirements and recommendation.
· Maintain regulatory compliance and manage risk in all aspects of the business.
· Ensure the operations comply with environmental and occupational H&S standards to meet legal requirements
Continuous Improvement:
· Support and help identify, define and agree Supply Chain Optimisation projects with a targeted savings schedule ie: transporter TAT, loading efficiencies at plant and customer etc
· Support savings initiatives and closely aligning with data analytics to make fact-based decisions.
· Implement the proposed projects to realise the savings and provide weekly reports on the savings realized.
Minimum requirements
Qualifications & Experience
· Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, Procurement, Logistics, or Business (postgraduate advantageous).
· 8–10 years’ logistics, control tower, order to cash experience.
· Proven track record in managing transporters, customers and enforcing contractual obligations.
· Experience in cross-border logistics (bulk commodities, exports, mining / manufacturing)
